Create a Start Menu Shortcut

Software programs. I have tons of them. That's why I had to reinforce my desk and the floor underneath it.

For frequently used programs I don't bother wading through my bloated Start/Programs menu. I either create a shortcut to it on my desktop or right on the Start button menu. Here's how you add a shortcut to the Start button menu.

  1. Click Start, point to the Settings menu, click Taskbar & Start Menu.
  2. Click the Start Menu Programs tab.
  3. Click Add, then click Browse.
  4. Locate the program you want to add, click it and click Next.
  5. Double-click the menu on which you want the program to appear, or click the button to create a new folder.
  6. Type the name as you want it to read and click Finish.
  1. If Windows prompts you to choose an icon, click one, and then click Finish.

Creating a shortcut on your desktop is similar. Right click on a blank area of the desktop and point to New and click Shortcut, then follow the prompts.
