Installing Fonts

Let's face it, the fonts that come with windows aren't very fun, and you've seen all those great looking fonts on web. So today you get to learn how to add them to your computer.

Before trying this tip, you might want to download some new fonts so you have something to work with.

To add a new font to your computer:

1. Click the Start button,
2. point to Settings,
3. click Control Panel,
4. double-click the Fonts icon.
5. On File menu, click Install New Font.
6. Click drive,
7. click the folder that contains the font you want to add,
8. click the font you want to add.

Notes:

• If the fonts you download are in a Zip file you'll have to unzip them first.
• To select more than one font to add, hold down the CTRL key, and then click each of fonts you want to install.
• For TrueType, Raster, or Adobe Type 1 fonts, you can also add a font by dragging the file to the Fonts folder in Windows Explorer.
• I don't recommend you have more than 100 - 120 fonts installed at any one time. The more you have installed, the slower your programs will open up. I keep a folder on my computer called Fontz, where I keep hundreds of favorite fonts. When I need one I temporarily install it.
• You can temporarily install a font by double-clicking it in Windows Explorer. That will open up the preview for the font. As long as the preview window is open the font is available to your programs. With some programs, if you open the preview window while the program is running, you'll have to close the program and reopen it.
